Father Chinenye Oluoma, a Catholic priest from the Archdiocese of Abuja, criticized the gospel singers.
This is when he revealed that some famous gospel singers currently charges N10 million to perform in the church.
He made this known while disparaging how expensive religious worship had become.
Speaking in a video that is trending on social media, Father Oluoma chastises gospel musicians for demanding huge sums of money to perform at a place of worship.
Taking Mercy Chinwo as an example, the rabbi, in a viral video, reiterated that the singer charges a church performance fee of N10 million.
“We have made religious worship expensive. If I had to bring Mercy Chinwo here and sing, how much would I pay her? How much does it cost for a gospel artist with Mercy Chinwo status to go to an event or church, currently it's up to N10m.
"This is the tragedy that we have transformed
Christianity, that an artist walks into a church and guides praise and worship for ten minutes for N10m, N5m. So if that particular artist, don't sing Jesus you love me too much, does that mean God didn't love you too much?
"And some people ask if they should get paid? Why don't you pay them? If you have to wear them, you have to pay because you bring them for fun. We made worship. phoenix into entertainment
“We copied the world. At that time, the people who composed the songs that we still worship, no one even knew about them,” he said.
Although, many reactions from individuals have a different perception. They believe that a man's gift makes way for him/her, so they don't see or have any problem with that.
The absence of encouraging our gospel singers has made many turn to circular music. This is a slap to the churches that they can't take care if their own. These are the thoughts of many persons who reacted to what Fr. Oluoma said.
