THE WIDOW OF ZAREPHATH
"Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell thee: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee, " 1Kings 17:9
Yesterday we studied what Elijah’s predisposition would have been with regards to the person God designed to be his sustenance. But today we will study the other party in question–‘the widow of Zarephath’.
After God gave the Prophet Elijah the directive in 1 Kings 17:9, he obeyed and then in verse 10 he met the widow woman and said to her “Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink”, while she was going to get the water, in verse 11, Elijah added;“Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.” Put simply, Elijah was saying to this woman, ‘please give me water and while you are at it, add bread in your hand and bring for me’. This kind of instruction could make a person who is operating in his or her right mind to get angry and tell the prophet off. If you read the scripture, you’ll find that Elijah met this woman at the gate of the city while she was gathering sticks, she was busy, yet she agreed to get the water and then he was asking her for more.
One lesson you must learn is; the woman was not positioned to help Elijah, but it was the other way round. The Prophet was positioned to help the woman but she was not yet aware of it. This must have been why she gave the answer in verse 12 saying; “man of God, what I have is little, when I fix it, my son and I will eat it and wait to die.” Think of it this way, what do you think would have become of this woman and her son if she had left Elijah in anger and made the meal for herself and her son alone?
Relating this to your daily life, how many helpers have you chased away because you were insensitive and could not give even from the little you have? Many a time, people have been mean and disrespectful to a person who should have put in a good word for them somewhere over something that could change their lives.
In a nutshell, you have to be sensitive to the needs of others because in fulfilling them, maybe, just maybe you will find your own answers.

PRAYER AND CONFESSION:
Oh lord, restore whatever i lost in the past due to insensitivity in Jesus name. Amen
WORDS OF WISDOM:
It is more blessed to give than to receive.
